Today in our intro class, we were talking about time and normal daily activities. We wrote a list of times on the board, and the students had to say what they were going to be doing at that time. For example:
At 12:30 in the afternoon, I am eating lunch.
We got to 5:00 pm, and I asked, "What are you doing at 5:00?" One guy was trying to say that he was going to a party, but he forgot a few little words in his sentence. He replied, "At 5:00 pm, I am going party". His pronunciation of the word party was a little off. What I heard was:
At 5:00 pm, I am going potty.
The funny thing is that I didn't realize what he was really trying to say. I just figured he was a kid who lived by a strict schedule and that he was not ashamed to share everything with a classroom full of people he just recently met (After the gift exchange experience, this wasn't too surprising). When I realized what he had meant to say, I laughed for awhile.
All in all, they did a great job with the activity and have done very well so far. By next week, they'll be writing poetry and debating politics.
