Ever get stuck in a rut?
I've been in a bit of a rut lately. I realized it this morning when I was about to put on my belt. I held it up vertically, and I noticed that it curved like a "C". I wear it the same way every day. What do I mean by "the same way"? I always send the small end through the loops on my left side first and pull it around from the right to the buckle. Is that how you do it? Maybe you've never thought much about it. Anyway, today I decided to change things up a bit. I sent the belt through the right side first. It was truly liberating. Of course, it felt weird and just plain wrong at first, but I just did it, and I'm glad I did. I still haven't decided if I'm going to keep doing it this way for awhile to try to straighten out the "C" or if I'll just go back to the same old routine. We'll see what kind of mood I'm in tomorrow. Maybe I could try to break some of my other old habits like brushing my teeth everyday or wearing socks. Probably not. I think some ruts are good. I bet you think I'm going to bring this all to a profound point about good routines, bad routines and breaking out of your comfort zone from time to time. I could, but I don't think I need to . . . or maybe I just did. One other thing, if wearing a belt the other way is something that girls do, please forget all of what I just said.
That reminds me of a pretty funny story. A few years back, I got a bunch of shirts from a family member or something. There was one shirt I liked and wore pretty often. The only weird thing about the shirt was that it buttoned backwards. I thought it was strange, but I kept on wearing it. Then, I found out that girls' shirts button different than boys' shirts. I did a quick inspection and discovered that, sure enough, I had been wearing a girls' shirt. After that discovery, I went out and changed the oil in my car and played some football. It helped a little.
By the way, I'm not writing too much about important stuff because Robin posted a blog today at our official blog site, and I'd hate to be repetitive. Check it out. A few weeks ago, Robin suggested that I should delete this blog and just write on that one. No way. Our Kandels in Costa Rica Blog is for official updates and stuff and is read by many of our supporters. This one is for a select group of our closest friends and family (and random internet predators). I like to have the freedom to write whatever I want. I can post about our daily activities here in Costa Rica, or I can share thought provoking stories about belts and girl shirts.
